Smockville Montessori is a non-profit preschool and kindergarten located in beautiful Old Town Sherwood. We are a member of the Oregon Montessori Association and the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce. We offer a small class environment to enable our teachers the ability to give your child more individual attention and care. Our location gives us easy access to our parks and city library for weekly outings.
Smockville Montessori follows the principles developed by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), an Italian physician, educator and humanitarian. Dr. Montessori believed children could learn free from bias if the environment was lovingly prepared with the needs of the child clearly understood. Our teachers strive to prepare a warm, nurturing environment for each child to grow and learn at their own pace.
Our Philosophy
Smockville Montessori Preschool & Kindergarten is a State of Oregon licensed childcare provider. We must follow rules and guidelines provided by the Department of Early Learning and Care to provide for the health and well being of each child. Every staff member is required to meet standards provided by the state which include, but are not limited to, pediatric first aid and CPR, continuing educational classes and registration in the State of Oregon Central Background Registry. Each year we undergo a complete certification process to be sure that Smockville Montessori Preschool & Kindergarten is in compliance of all rules and regulations.
